This week's #MugMonday celebrates Excel fluency, a foundation of effective data visualization.

Data visualization is not about pretty charts. It's about process: dig into the numbers FIRST, look for patterns and outliers, carve out your narrative. THEN get creative designing a visualization that communicates what matters.

I didn't always know my sheet. About 10 years ago, I began taking professional development classes in Excel, Tableau, and Power BI. I deliberately inserted myself into B2B research projects outside of my marketing and design comfort zone. I partnered with some brilliant researchers who taught me a few things. It was frustrating at times and made my workdays longer, but it was worth it. I can now confidently hold up this mug.
